Training Program

Train at MAPLE for 1-3 months. Use this form to apply. To visit as guest before applying, see this page.

The training program is an unparalleled opportunity to discover the beauty of monastic life and engage in a significant period of deep spiritual practice.

With support from a skilled teacher and community of spiritual friends, you will develop the foundational skills needed to walk the path to enlightenment and integrate contemplative practice into daily service. You will also engage in intellectual study to make sense of the planetary situation and how we might use the circumstances of the digital age to care for all life on Earth.

We offer:

  • Full monastic schedule structured to be of benefit to those training in body, speech and mind.
  • 4+ hours a day of meditation practice and guidance on integrating the practice into all activities.
  • Buddhist meditation instruction and teachings that inspire urgency and fuel practice.
  • Monthly silent retreats throughout the year

This container is for those willing to take personal responsibility for overcoming the greed, hatred, and delusion, which are producing the crises of our age. We look right at the existential crisis of our time by facing the greed, hatred, and delusion present within our own minds. The training is for those sincerely dedicated to walking this path for the benefit of all beings.

  • Feedback culture supportive of taking responsibility and letting go
  • Physical tasks such as grounds work, cooking, and cleaning
  • Rituals to cultivate group harmony and go beyond the self-centered, ego-driven mind
  • Opportunity to see how we carry hidden assumptions about the world and ourselves and learn to question what we previously could not question
  • 1-3 month stay with room and board provided on a dana-basis
  • 2 vegan meals per day
  • Regular personal practice guidance and teachings on the Buddhadharma
  • Spiritual friendship in community
  • Trustworthiness and accountability training

This program is offered on a dana basis, which is a term for the Buddhist virtue of generosity. The cultivation of this virtue is integral to one’s pursuit of ethical conduct. Participants will be given the opportunity to practice generosity through giving an amount that is in alignment with their resources and the value they received from the training.

For those that are ready to fully commit to the mission of the Monastic Academy, we may offer them the opportunity to train for a minimum of one year as a full time training resident.

This is an intense meditation and personal development training that gives you a rare set of skills and experiences for life. Anyone is welcome to apply.

This training is not for everyone, and that’s okay. We expect our trainees to take personal responsibility for their own mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

People receive the most benefit from our training when they can hold their spiritual aspiration as central, acting directly from their vow—rather than looking for an outside source to tell them what to do. We wish to support sincere seekers on their path, and we take relationship as sacred. To do that, we also expect trainees to give themselves fully to the training while they are a part of it, doing what is asked. If the rules and commitments are not followed or the program is not of benefit, trainees may be asked to leave the program early.

If you are inspired to take advantage of this unique opportunity, feel free to fill out an interest form below. If you would like to visit before applying, feel free to come as a guest.
